Menu unresponsive and disrupted on LM 17 Qiana Cinnamon

Hey friends,

Though I had sworn not to install any programme other than using the Synaptic, I had to break it because I had to install a Windows based programme, through Wine.

I installed IrfanView image editor on my LM 17 Qiana Cinnamon through Wine. Before doing that, I had to place the mfc42.dll file in the system folder of the Wine c: drive. But once I completed the installation, my 'Menu' got disrupted. Here is below what it looks like now;

The very few items that are visible on the left column now [earlier all the programmes were available] are not at all responsive. Nothing happens if I click on them. The items on the RHS are responsive.

One more thing that I have to inform is; initially I accidentally downloaded a non-english [I can't discern which language it is] installer package of IrfanView and installed it. But when I realised the mistake I downloaded the English package and installed. But the English version does not open. When I click on the IrfanView shortcut on the desktop, the non-english version opens. Now I was unable to uninstall the non-english version, because I cannot open Wine. It's icon has disappeared from the menu. I tried to open it with Terminal. Here is below what I get in the terminal;

Though I have the administrator privileges, it says you are not the owner.

I tried to Uninstall IrfanView with a third party Uninstaller [Iobit Uninstaller] in wine. I suppose, IrfanView got uninstalled, the program does not open when I click on the shortcuts now.

But I am still unable to open any programs now through the menu. I have to open them through the Shell. I could just open the Gedit. I don't know the commands for other programmes. So I don't know if they can be started.

I am in a mess. Please help me resolve this issue.

Thanking you

Regards

Anil

Edit:

Struggling to resolve the issue I gave the command 'mintmenu' in the Terminal. Below is what I got.

Has this got something to do with my problem?

I forgot to inform that just before installing IrfanView I installed 'Avidemux'. Did this issue erupt due to that?

If so how would I resolve this?

Kindly help.

Thank you

Regards

Anil

Edit:

I just checked the details of the 'Avidemux' software that I installed. Here below is the information found on the Software-Manager page;

It is given that;

"This package contains the classic version with GTK+ interface"

Has this got something to do with my issue?
If so how would I resolve this?

Thank you

Hey guys,

The problem is resolved .

I just uninstalled all that belonged to 'Avidemux' through the Synaptic. The menu is back working.

But now I have a new problem. I.E. how should I install 'Avidemux' without the problem recurring again?

Kindly help.

Thank you

Regards

Anil

Hello there,

I installed the Avidemux QT version in place of the gtk version. Its working fine without creating any problems for the Menu.

I reinstalled the IrfanView too. That too is working fine.

The problem is solved completely.

Thank you guys, for bearing with me.

Regards

Anil
