Manually typing error in terminal

Hi everybody.
I received a notification for an update but when I tried to update automatically, an error occurred.
E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem.
E: _cache->open() failed, please report.
I tried to type 'dpkg --configure -a' in terminal but command not recognized. I have tried several ways to type this but I am clearly missing a space, or adding a space etc. Can somebody point me in the right direction? I am running mint 21
Thank you in advance.

would be nice to show us exactly what did you try and what's happened, otherwise extremely hard to catch a typo (or similar).
Did you make it as root?

Thanks pan.
I've screen shot some photos to clipboard of the issue but trying to work out how to post them.
I've got a lot to learn.

Likely, you need to use sudo, as dpkg is a 'root' program.

sudo dpkg --configure -a
