Mandriva 2009 not recognizing removable media files CD/DVD etc.

I have installed Mandriva 2009 on my Compaq EVO and the OS looks and works terrific in some respects but the problem I am having is that as I attempt to access media from CD's DVS's etc. they are not being recognized. Everything else seems OK. I have looked and looked over everything conceivable to no avail. For instance CD directories are not recognized or JPEG's or music files. One .mpg movie set got through and played fine on the movie player and the burner worked great for a music CD. What is my problem? The Internet Connection works OK as well. I am getting no error messages from the applications.

Hi KFL

Are the discs actually being recognised correctly, ie you can see the directory structure on the discs and the files within them. If not, it may be that the wrong file system is being used to mount them as Vista lovingly burns everything as UDF rather than iso9660 file system.

Please can you copy and paste your /etc/fstab if this is the issue you are having?

Very little is being recognized properly. I have at the moment un-installed the Mandriva and Fedora 10 seems to have allot less bugs. Regular commercial Music cd's or .jpegs or files do not show and either does little else. I had to mount the floppies through a terminal. I think there are sections that are not there. I will send the /etc/fstab when I get it reinstalled. I had looked at/etc/fstab and it looked quite sparse. Most dir structure is not seen at opening disks.
