Wow, talk about the best way to start off installing my first linux os. (sacarastic)
hehe..well I just installed a linux distro for the first time..and I chose mandrake 9.1 to start off with. It was either that or redhat 9 but I chose mandrake. Anyway, how embarrassing. I'm already having problems installing. At the drakx installation screen, it gives me a <f1> or <enter> option. When i try using the default installation pressing enter, my screen goes black and my keyboard lights blink continously. Can anyone help. The text installation works...but i really wanted to use the gui installation.
Skyline, Thanks it works now but it seems I guess that vga=0 set my videocard to 16 colors and a very low resolution...but hey at least its a gui...Do you have any idea why I had to do this. Compatability with my graphics card i Presume....if so, thats strage b/c geforce4 should be quite common...even though nvidia now licks atis ass.
NOTE: I Like these forums and I'm going to need a lot of help converting to a linux guru. So, beware. I may start posting a lot more often...
i think it has something to do with them higher end video cards, not sure the specific reason, but thats neither here nor there, you got past your hurdle, now all you have to do is run the X configurator and you'll be in the gui with your resolution and color depth of choice , and if you need 3d capabilites then after all that you can go grab the drivers off of nvidias site.
