I am not a total linux newbie, i used to run redhat 7.2 for a while but I recently decided to install Mandrake 9.1.
So far I really like this distribution, a lot more than I liked redhat 7.2.
The only thing that annoys me is that i am still unable to connect to the internet, I got it working in redhat 7.2 without too much trouble but mandrake is really giving me a hard time.
According to the mandrake website 9.1 should support my speedtouch usb adsl modem, after installing all the packages needed to get my modem going i booted up drakconnect.
It told me that i needed to download the speedtouch microcode from the alcatel website, the webside no longer had the file but after some time I was able to download the correct file (mgmt.o).
After i installed the file I configured the rest of the internet options and thought I was ready to go....
However drakconnect was unable to connect to the internet, I now have tried dozens of how-to's, different drivers and read several forum topics on the subject.. all without no luck at all.
The modem itself seems to be working, the green usb and adsl lights are on (they are off if there is no modem driver loaded).
I really do not understand what is wrong here. I really near total desperation. Can anyone help me out here, please?
