losing audio


my audio on my red hat 9 seems to not work after the system is running for about a half hour, however, when i log out and back in it works again. any ideas?

I have a similar problem with my laptop! What sound card do you have? Post the output of these two commands:

You have the same chipset as me - 845GL. Are you using KDE? I noticed KDE has an 'Auto-suspend if idle' feature under Sound System. I wondered if that was the problem, maybe turn that off? I don't think I am having the same problem with Gnome since I switched, but I have only been using it a few hours, and no problems yet...

nope not using KDE, i wonder if i should buy a pci soundcard and slip that in.
