chaparral, that is exactly what happened, but i didn't know how to check all these things. It is harder than hell to copy all the errors then boot into Win and get online, then post it all here. after beating myself silly trying to figure it out, i finally did get back in by changing the permissions. I screwed up so many other things that i finally gave up on it completely. I have now switched from slackware to RedHat. Thanx for all the help anyway.
