I've tried Kubuntu, Ubuntu, Firefox and Google-Chrome. Loading chess games in Chesslab by Game Colony almost always chokes (Chrome shows the "He's Dead, Jim" page). Never happens in Windows. I'm not going back to Windows for that, but it would be nice to fix this.
I kind of jumped the gun, using natty narwhal beta (what is that: 1.6.0-36?). But I've had the same problem with lucid and maverick. Curious that Firefox worked OK for you and not for me. Guess I'm doing <something> worgn. Maybe it's not a Linux quirk. Thx for reply.
Sorry. I read Ubuntu version where you said java version. (I sometimes use my handle Geek-zer, a combination of geek and geezer and tonight is my geezer night.) Java is 1.6.0_22. I found it by checking from Firefox; checking from Chrome caused the same kind of choking and "Dead" as I get in Chesslab. Interesting. Might be onto something.
I upgraded to _24 on the java. Thought for a minute that solved the problem. Could load and play two games in Chesslab. The third one became unresponsive after loading about 3 moves. Will try from FF next. Maybe it's a chrome problem. Appreciate the input.
At least I now have the latest version of Java to become unresponsive and deliver an "Aw, Snap!" message. I'd welcome a suggestion of what direction to try next.
