2006 imac with working Linux 19.1 operating system just stopped loading, Get white screen then nothing happens and machine goes off. OR machine boots and get one straight line of colors about 1/8" high across screen.
This easily could be a hardware component failure. If it was only a failed HD you should get a prompt showing there is no available boot device. Has the iMac ever been opened up for cleaning? Accumulated dust can cause component overheating. Have you tried re-seating the RAM? Can you get it to boot from the 19.1 installation media?
