If it is an external drive . Like one of my computers I have usb 2 and a usb 3 slot. yes I know they look the same. and can run all the same stuff. but on the front I have one usb-3 and on the back I have 2 usb-3. How I know is through bios. For faster transfer rate look into if you are set to the faster one. And in bios is it set to use all automatically all depends on your motherboard.
