Linux media centre
Hi again, I thought that I would post a general thread on building a linux media center. I have done a little research, but as yet, not found the answers that I am looking for.
I am looking for a linux distribution that works the same as, or should I say better than, windows. Is there anyone with a little background on media center's that could point me in the right direction.

Thanks guys for being so prompt. OK so, if I understand you right, then slackware 11 would do as well as any other distro? My aim at the moment is to build up a knowledge base, so that I can build a reliable media center. My hope is that I wouldn't need to do any major over hauls for a reasonable time into the future. I am not looking to build the dearest or cheapest and I will not be building it tomorrow. Rather a case of collecting info to minimize mistakes ha, ha. I would appreciate info recommendations on motherboards, hard drives, graphic cards and such like. I of course realize that new electronics become available almost daily, so that is not a problem. Perhaps you are aware of pitfalls when choosing components?

Hi again, well, I have been looking into the info you all gave me. Ubuntu studio looked quite interesting. In fact, I was quite impressed with Ubuntu. I have tried the desktop and studio versions. I did notice that there was a media center download that should work with Ubuntu called Elisa? Is there anyone that knows anything about Elisa? Haven't tried mythtv yet.I was wondering if Elisa could be combined with Ubuntu studio? This is, as I have explained, just research at the moment, but any feed back would be appreciated.
