Linux Dummie

Hello,
I am new to Linux.
Till now I was a Windows user since the beginning.
Then I tried Ubuntu 22.04 and managed to install a couple of thing like Chrome and video downloader.
Now I have installed Linux Lite and am desperately trying to install youtube downloader and realplayer on my laptop. No sucess. I have googled everything but it does not work. Any help will be welcomed.
Regards
Mohsin Jiwa

Hi, and welcome here, at LQ
Would be nice to tell us what did you install, and what did you try to install exactly. Also would be nice to explain what's happened - exactly, "No success" is not enough to help you.

If you're not familiar with installing software on Linux, you might like to read this.

Linux Lite is Debian/Ubuntu based and the method of installing software should be the same. More specifics on the problems you are having and how you tried to download as requested above would be helpful.

realplayer has been dead for a decade or so.
youtube-dl and ut-dlp requires python3. That is what they are, python scripts.

Use your package manager.

ut-dlp can be had from source if you must.

Ubuntu or Mint would be the best options for a new user, so I'd certainly go back to the latest versions of either of those. And given the abundance of information for such search-terms as "how to install chrome on Ubuntu" and "how to install video downloader on ubuntu":

https://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/how-to-i...rome-on-ubuntu
https://snapcraft.io/install/video-downloader/ubuntu

...I'm not sure what you're having problems with. As said, realplayer is a dead program, so installing that will be nothing but a headache. But we do need more than "no success" and "does not work" for problem descriptions.

Now, let me add one more thought: a thread title such as "Linux Dummie" isn't helpful, even if you feel like one. (We all do sometimes.)

What we need are two things: (1) A meaningful thread title which will attract people who might know the answer. And (2) details. Exactly what packages you tried. Exactly what messages told you that you had "no success." What did you Google? What, exactly, "does not work?" No one can read your mind. A well-formed, well-phrased, answerable question usually gets an answer very fast.

There have been issues with youtube downloader which started this year which from what I understand is development has been dropped which is why I and others can't get it to work anymore. There are other alternatives like what I use now which is
ClipGrab https://clipgrab.org/download-clipgrab/ As for Realplayer it hasn't been available for years. I recommend Celluloid which I found works well.

I assume the title is a result of a non-English speaking author.

That is the problem! You 'googled"!!
Go to DuckDuckGo and use that search engine. Things become better after that.
