I am trying to manually install Lilo into my MBR because the lilo install keeps failing when I try to run my installer. I have my drive partitioned into 3 partitions. hdc1, hdc2, and my swap partition hdc3. When I try to install lilo, it tells me that hdc2 is not safe to install in. I am sure that I have the right type of filesystem mounted(ext3). What can I do to find where the problem is?

PS: Sorry for asking a dumb question, but what is the format command in Linux? I was going to try running a low-level format, but I can't figure it out.(spent about 1/2 hour looking for it)

I think you install the bootloader into the MBR which is part of the drive (e.g. like /dev/hdc) not a specific partition.

I tried that and it won't let me do that either.
