lilo.conf "label=" question

This makes no sense to me. If I type anything other than "label=linux" in lilo.conf then 'lilo -v' fails every time. Isnt it just a label? Shouldt I be able to put anything there I want?

shows a lilo.conf with a variety of different labels.

the
-v
option just means "be verbose".

this makes me think that there's something else wrong with the file.
I haven't played with the file before, but if you post it's contents and the errors, maybe someone can help you.

im not exactly sure what lilo -v does but maybe after you change your lilo.conf you need to run /sbin/lilo before you can run lilo -v

Do your

default= directive

and

label = directive

match up

in terms of one OS or image being the default?

Change

other = /dev/hda1
label = Windows

to read
other = /dev/hda1
label=Windows

Less the spaces. I don't think lilo likes those spaces for some reason. If that works you may want to change the others and run lilo again to double check.

Not a guru, but worth a try.

the spaces shouldnt do anything but then again some programs are picky...anyways i dont think we can really help you without seeing your /etc/lilo.conf
