Unhappy leafpad note can't save to usb drive, even thou it is mounted as seen on nautilus


ubuntu 18.04lts

leafpad note can't save to usb drive (usb drive is not visible in the "save dialog box"
even thou the usb drive is mounted as seen on nautilus
when i used libre writer to save to usb drive, it is ok (usb drive is visible).

any idea why ? is there something to do with the way the software programmed or is there some sort of permission or right i have not done.

Instead of clicking on a drive icon in your sidebar, can you go to the location where the USB drive is? Usually under /media.
That said, it's strange that it wouldn't show up in the sidebar, it's just the normal GTK2-filechooser.
Can you reproduce the problem with other applications?
Can you attach a screenshot?

See if you are able to save under the following location : /media/your-username/usb-drive-name

Additionally do you get the same problem when saving a word document for instance?

It also doesn't seem to recognize the current icon theme!
Very strange.
You didn't install leafpad as a snap or flatpak or some such nonsense?

i tried to just type in /media/username/usb_mount_point/test.txt
output is:
cannot open file to read.

Did you enter that literally? That won't work.
Please check with your filemanager what the actual path to that USB stick is.

and that sometimes uses snaps afaik.
It seems nonsensical for a simple program like leafpad, but that's the only idea I can come up with. Please check thoroughly.
