hp pavilion dv9244z
amd turion 64 x2
2x120 gb hard drives
(one is config. as a slave according to the pamphlet...)
I was planning on having vista and kubuntu on the one hard drive that was config. as a master and use the other one as storage.
Vista is present and working but when I boot with the kubuntu cd and choose 'start or install kubuntu' it starts loading but halts midway and freezes and the caps lock light goes on.
As kubuntu is booting from the cd, it should not matter how the partitions vista made look like, yes?
(the disks are ok)

You need free disk space to install any linux distro to. That means the other OS you have can not have all the disk space in partitions. It does not matter if the partitions have a lot of free space or not. If windoze has all the space, you will have to shrink the partitions and create free space, at least enough to install Kubuntu, if that is the distro you want to install.
I don't know why Kubuntu is " freezing " there could be some hardware related issue.
that seems to help.
I used the storage manager in vista
(I can't find any option when booting with the vista disc for changing partitions, only factory restoration)
I will shout for help if I run into another problem, but for now it seems to work.
