Knoppix 4.0

Hi, I am new here & new to Linux too..

Since I am free & currently in holidays, I just wanted to learn a bit more about Linux software etc. So, I just inserted a Live CD 'KNOPPIX 4.0' a friend gave me. I inserted the CD, it loaded successfully in RAM, and I could access the various drives.

The problem is that it seems that I cannot make any changes to the Harddisk -> for example: I cannot create any Text-File or copy any files.

Can someone help me?:

- Is it firstly possible to copy or create new files on the existing hard-disks?

- Most probably, I think it should be possible.. So, maybe is it a problem of required 'Admin Privileges'?
- I found something known as super-user, but I cannot found how to activate it, although I found how to change its password.

- Or it might be a completely different problem?

No Change

You have an older version of Knoppix. It was made difficult on purpose. A newer and more intuitive version as well as many other live-cds can be found here.

If you have not burned a linux cd before, it must be burned as an ISO image file or it will not boot. If your Windows burner presents difficulty, here is an easy one.

How linux performs for you will depend on your hardware, your interest and expertise, and your patience. Welcome to the tribe, and Good Luck.
