killall X - this is not the proper shutdown mechanism, is it??

Hi all,

just wndering wht is the proper command required to shut down the Linux OS fully?? I tried killall X after reading one of the other posts but it doesn't go all the way out. Can anyone let me know whether there should be more parameters aded in order to completely shut the system down?

shutdown -h now

You can also use poweroff.
