Keyboard z=y, Monitor configuration (?)

I'm a very new newbie, just installed SuSE 9.0 on a new Compaq. When I type a "y", I get a "z", cannot get the "at" symbol, and other neat characters that don't show up on my keyboard with other keys. When I go into Yast configure and test the keyboard, it works normally until my next reboot. Do I need to select a different driver (or download one), and how do I do so?

I also cannot get into any screens that have to do with graphics/monitor settings as my monitor goes haywire, everything is enlarged and overlapped and impossible to read. The only way I can get rid of this is to reboot, thus resetting my keyboard...

Pardon my ignorance, and thanks for any help....

Matt

sounds like the wrong keyboard location...
somtimes when i set my keyboard to american (im english)
the '@' key and the ' " ' key swap places.

as for the screen, sounds like your screen resoution is too low.
try editing /etc/X11/CF86Config file to change screen resolution. see your monitor manual for compatable resolutions and refresh rates.
