kernel compile question....


after installing gentoo on a spare hd and going thru all that ...I decide to try and recompile my kernel on my debian system..now during the gentoo install the kernel compile took about a half hour and I compiled it with my nvidia,nic, and soundcard
now doing it the debain way and not compiling with nvidia etc ( will use modules) its taken over an hour and still going any idea why??

The time taken to compile is depend on many factors...
Your machine, flags used, etc.
I hope you compile the Gentoo Kernel on a system build with gentoo plus processor optimization.
Since Debian is always a slower than Gentoo, it probably take much more time than it on gentoo.
