KDE problem with Knoppix

Hi,

I recently downloaded Knoppix and was playing with it, but it seems it can only load in the text mode. My computer has 128MB ram on it, so I'm wondering why the KDE mode won't load? Is there anyway I can get around this?

Thanks,
Caleb

what happens when you boot? it should load kde by default, and if it can't there should be a nice useful error message you can tell us. once in console, you can always try running startx.

maybe you have a rubbish graphics card....?

knoppix has to have the following that i know of to boot to a terminal:

knoppix 2

--bunch of jabberish about it loading stuff---

thats the only way i recall knoppix booting into console.

does it start x and then x crashes and left with only: root@tty1[#]: ?

its probably

A) the video driver you chose is of the wrong type

B) your video card isn't supported by the OS

It will load in the twm windowmanager with a message saying that it could not load KDE because it requires 82 RAm, and a window will appear with something about knoppix@tty0 and othe stuff. I sigh.

well that's a pretty polite message.. why didn't you tell us that in the first place? solution - buy more ram or use a decent window manager like fluxbox instead of a fat bloated slow piece of tat like kde.

Ah, well. Thanks anyway for the help, and here's hoping that one day I won't have a sucky computer.

Thanks,
Caleb
