Question just installed slackware 10 and now it won't recognize my root password

I have finally got slackware 10 installed on my 2nd HD. Took me awhile but i got the internet up and running with netconfig. but now I can't understand why it won't recognize my root password? I'm very knew to this and I'm sorry if this seems elementary.
Thank you for your time whoever responds.

Do you mean you could previously run as root (setting things up, et cetera), and now you can't log in, "su" or anything else into root access? Have you done anything to the /etc/passwd or /etc/shadow files?
