Is it possible to read EXT4 disks with 8.04 Hardy

On a multi boot computer I have 8,04LTS installed and have just installed 10.04LTS before making the big jump. Both boot but the Hardy cannot read the Lucid ext4 filesystem. There seems to be no option to use ext3 with 10.04LTS

Is there any way to read EXT4 from 8.04LTS?

Thanks, I had done several searches but hadn't turned up anything relevant.

Maybee I should try a newer kernel for 8.04. Tried before but it wouldn't complile properly running out of space after filling up the 1.9G disk free space.
