Is it possible to make ubuntu divide the screen in 2 so i and mom can use the laptop

So yeah ..

Is it possible to tell ubuntu to divide the screen in 2 pieces and display desktop 1 on piece 1 and desktop 2 on piece 2 ...

so i can use desktop 2 with 1 keyboard and one mouse and my mom can use dekstop 1 with her mouse and her keyboard ...

Any ideas _?

Nearest thing I can find.

http://www.linux.org/docs/ldp/howto/...erm/index.html

It allows you to run a thin client A Diskless system. yeh, you need more hardware; system box with Monitor, keyboard and mouse and a network connection to your laptop which will act as a server and hold the operating system and data.
I haven't heard of any system box which will support two monitors, keyboards and mice whether it's running Linux, Windows or whatever. OK, you can install two or more Monitors on a single system but they're controlled with the same single keyboard & mouse.

Interesting foot note: I believe that Sir Terry Pratchet, the author of the DiskWorld novels, was asked why he had six monitors on his desk. His answer? "The desk isn't big enough to have eight."

Play Bonny!

Does your laptop have a connector for an external monitor?
Post the make/model.

Maybe not the exact solution you are seeking but depending on the hardware you might be able to run a multiseat setup.

What linux distribution/version are you running? It should be possible to configure the laptop like the following using the external VGA output as a separate display.
