1) Sign in as root:
su root
(then type password, press enter)
2) Type:
./configure && make && make install
Explanation:
The configure bash script creates a Makefile fine-tuned to your system configuration. The make utility then reads in that Makefile and executes the (installation) instructions in it. "install" refers to a particular set of rules within that Makefile.
