Question Installing programs?


Once you install a program where do you go to get it?
For example i downloaded and installed audacity and i dont know where to find it.

We'll need a little more information. What distribution of Linux are you using? How did you install the program? Did you install it from a package or from source?

Generally, if you installed the program using the tools provided by your distribution, it should show up in your system menus. For example, under Gnome on my machine, audacity appears under Applications->Sound & Video->audacity.

My audacity is not under gnome or sound and video.

Go to command line

Just try this at command line "whereis audacity" the first part of it will probably show /usr/bin/audacity.that is where it is located.

Another way is "locate audacity"

You might want to do a "updatedb" to update the data base to find it.
