For the printer:
Is there a menu item for printing and printers? Regardless, I prefer accessing the CUPS system directly (enter "localhost:631" in your browser)

Installing SW:
Always use the package manager if possible. Assuming that the SW you want to install is not available that way, then simply follow the instructions that come with the SW. In your case, what is the SW, and what form is it in? (e.g. it might be a file ending in ".tar.gz" or simply ".tgz".)

Linpus Lite

you might have a problem there

if it is not on the limpus web site you basically do not install it
http://www.linpus.com/

a "Linpus Lite" netbook is thought of by Linpus as an appliance and you do NOT install things on a toaster or a refrigerator or blender

what version of "Linpus Lite" there is an older version that was based on the now VERY old and VERY dead "fedora8"

I recommend you install a beginner-friendly operating system such as Linux Mint or Ubuntu, instead of the obsolete Linpus Lite.
