installing just win2k after fc2

hi,

I have an ibm T30. I installed FC2 on it by totally removing all the XP partitions. Now I need to reinstall Windows to run a program but don't have the XP disk. I have a win2k disk but it is not bootable so you need the boot floppies. Well, I booted from floppy 1 and when prompted I inserted 2, 3 and 4. At the end of 4 windows says at the bottom "Starting-up Windows". It pauses for a moment and then I get the BSOD with INACCESSABLE_BOOT_DEVICE.

Alright FC2 did something to the MBR. No problem, I thought and dug up a Win98 boot floppy. I ran FDISK /MBR and for good measure deleted all the linux partitions, created a single DOS partition with “Large Disk Support” enabled and then did a FORMATE C: /S. Cool, so now I’ve got DOS on my laptop. I can even boot to it!

Then I booted from the Win2k boot floppies and . . . . same thing: INACCESSABLE_BOOT_DEVICE at the very end of disk 4.

I can’t get to the Recovery Console because that happens after win2k starts up at the end of disk 4, so I can’t use FIXBOOT or FIXMBR.

Any ideas?

I read these articles but I don’t see anything that could help me:
http://www.ces.clemson.edu/linux/fc2.shtml
http://software.thenetdragon.net/referenced/fixmbr/

Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks!

I was thinking about installing FC3 since the following link inticates that there was a problem in the FC2 installer that writes a geometry to the MBR that freaks out Windows (and was hoping that FC3 fixed it).

Any idea if that program wipes the MBR because I feel that is where my problem is.
