I'm sure that the Fedora-heads will be upset, but you are sure to be much happier with Slackware. I know that I have really enjoyed playing with and tweaking my set up to get it fully functional and lean as well.
As far as your mouse is concerned, if you are using an external mouse through a USB, you need to make sure you have the USB portion of the kernel set for just about everything you can. It is suggested highly that you know exactly the cards and devices installed in your computer. Go through the xconfig screen item by item and be sure that you have all your devices selected.
If you are using the newest version of Slackware, you will have a 2.6.x installed by default. That will help fix a lot of your problems, and will allow you to view and hear Flash media and other stuff that 2.4.x kernels don't support.
Good luck in Slackware land.
Blessed be!
