Post Installing 'ZORIN 12.4 LITE' on a Windows 10 notebook

Before I post my question/problem(s), please know that I had a triple-stroke a few years back and am quite slow at re-learning things and have to keep things in 'laymans' terms !!! I've been using 'Windows' since the mid 90's but have lost a LOT of my memory ... I'm back in early grade school ... PERMANENTLY !!!

QUESTION ... How to install 'ZORIN 12.4 LITE' on 2 different (but quite similar) Windows 10 notebooks !!!???!!! Is there a way to get around the UEFI problem and be able to use a bootable USB drive to install ZORIN ??? I followed the installation & verification directions to the letter using the recommended programs ... but kept running into the Microsoft 'Boot-Program'.

The 2 systems in question are .....

#1 - MAKE - NEXTBOOK (YIFANG)
Model - 10.1 (NXW10QC32G)
CPU - Intel Atom Z3735G 1.33GHz Quad-Core
RAM - 1 GIG
HDD - 32 GIG SSD
1-Micro SD Card slot
1-USB 'OTG' port
32 BIT
** This one hasn't been used in quite a while ... but still works ... and I'm using it right now !!!

#2 - MAKE - NEXTBOOK (YIFANG)
Model - FLEXX 10 (NXW101QC232)
CPU - Intel Atom Z3735F 1.33 GHz Quad-Core
RAM - 2 GIG
HDD - 32 GIG SSD
1-Micro SD Card slot
2-USB 2.0 ports
32 BIT
** Microsoft ruined this one (it's my favorite of the 2) .... after the last 'cumulative' update, they wiped out my audio (Intel SST & Realtek Codec - totally deleted and can't be ound anywhere) ... NO internal SD card reader ... NO battery icon in the taskbar ... and LOTZ of other fun and annoying stuff !!!!

I really like the 'ZORIN 12.4 LITE' specs and think it would work nicely in these 2 wonderful little notebooks .... but Microsoft has provided me with another stumbling block !!! Windows 10 has gotten too big and uses up too much of the available resources for these 2 Nextbooks to operate smoothly.

I'm hoping somebody has a 'trick-up-their-sleeve' !!!

Windows 10 by default will use UEFI if it is pre-installed. If you want to have a boot menu with both Zorin/windows, you will need to install Zorin UEFI also otherwise when you want to switch from booting windows to Zorin, you will need to go into the BIOS and change the boot option each time you want to do this.

I haven't installed Zorin for some time so can't give you specifics on it. It is a derivative of Ubuntu so you might go to the link below and read at least the first part of the page, through the section General Principles.

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UEFI

In order to install Zorin on the computer, you will first need to use Disk Management from windows to shrink the largest windows partition to create unallocated space on which to install. You can't install it to a windows filesystem partition. Zorin should have a manual install option (Something Else) which would be best to use for your install.

Lightbulb Changing to Legacy BIOS ...

THANX, Yancek ... I'll get-around to reading that link this evening !!!
Here's something I found on the Microsoft Help Centre last evening about changing to Legacy BIOS ... BUT, it's a little above my head !!!
Actually, I wanted to totally remove Windows 10 ... these little 'notebooks' can't handle the newer version of Windows 10 and 'bogg' the system down.

CHANGE from UEFI to Legacy BIOS mode ...

If you want to overwrite windows and just use Zorin, you should have the option to Erase Disk and install Zorin.

Installing ...

Thanx again, Yancek .... that's pretty much what I wanted to do. But I was hoping that the ZORIN program would do that for me during its installation process ... but the ZORIN welcome screen never came up. However, the ZORIN OS came up on the list during the 'boot-up' ... but all that was there was <.> or <..> . Never did a 'C' drive erase before and don't know how (at the moment), but I'm sure I'll figure it out !!! If there's a report of a nuclear explosion somewhere in South-Central Pennsylvania in the next few days, you'll know it was me !!!
