Installation HP Tape Drive

Hi All,

i am using RedHat 5.3 linux server and i am going to install HP StoreEver 1/8 G2 Tape Autoloader tape drive.

i am asking if REDHAT 5.3 OS will automatically detect the new drive, if not what is the full steps to install this drive?.

Note: the Tape drive interface is SCSI

You're using Red Hat Enterprise with HP Hardware...you first need to contact HP Support to get the correct driver(s) for your platform, then you can contact Red Hat Support for assistance. Those are the 'full steps'.

If you are not PAYING for Red Hat Enterprise, you shouldn't be using it. And, RHEL5.3 is pretty old at this point..the latest is 6.4. Since it's an autoloader, without the correct drivers, the tape drive will work...but the autochanger might not, since the system has no way of knowing how to move the arms/request tapes, etc. Again, unless you're PAYING for RHEL, you probably won't be able to get things working correctly, since you may have to compile kernel modules or upgrade things, which you won't have access to since you're unsupported/unpaid.
