Please post your /etc/fstab file and check (as root) the /var/log/messages file for the device, example typed command;

cat /var/log/messages | grep CD

Also please try booting into Linux without the switches noapic ide=nodma in the kernel line.

cat /var/log/messages | grep CD :

Lists my DVD-player and my CD-burner.
sample: "hdc: ATAPI 48X CD-ROM CD-R/RW drive, 1984kB Cache"
"Hdd: HITACHI DVD-ROM GD-2500, ATAPI CD/DVD-ROM drive"

------------------------------------------------------------------------

cat /var/log/messages | grep drive_cmd :

Lists some errors.
Sample: "hdb: drive_cmd: status=0x51 {DriveReady SeekComplete Error}"
"hdb: drive_cmd: error=0x04 {DriveStatusError}"
"hda: drive_cmd: status=0x51 {DriveReady SeekComplete Error}"
"hda: drive_cmd: error=0x04 {DriveStatusError}"

---------------------------------------------------------------------

I can also see that X has alot of errors. And will not start up. But we already know that...

Well, I cant find so much interresting in /var/log/messages
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Starting up without "noapic ide=nodma" causes the loader to stall. I cant get into "3".
