Install Problems
I currently have RedHat 5.2 installed, and I am trying to upgrade to 8.... I have an RedHat 8 CD, but I am not sure how to start the install. My computer will not boot off of the Redhat 8 cd. I can get boot off a floppy and get to the LILO prompt, but I am not sure what to do next....
Can anyone help me?

can you configure your BIOS to boot from CD? usually you have to hold down DEL or something when you restart your system. otherwise you need a floppy with cdrom support i think.

You can't just use a standard boot floppy you will need to make one from the images on the cd.

Install Problems - STILL
I have the boot floppy that was created when I installed 5.2.
My computer will not boot directly from the 8.0 CD. I want to attempt an upgrade, I don't want to format over the 5.2.
The error message that I get when I boot from the 8.0 CD is:
ISOLINUX 1.75 2002-06-14 ISOLINUX: Loading spec packet failed, trying to wing it
ISOLINUX: failed to locate CD-Rom device boot failed
I have tried to boot from the 5.2 floppy, which works. I can get to the "LILO boot:" prompt, but still I am not sure what to do to kick start the 8.0 installation.....

create a floppy from an image that is on the cd - do NOT use your 5.2 floppy.
I also don't reccomend upgrading I would do a freash install to save problems latter but that is up to you.

new installation
I agree with david_ross. Install and not upgrade. But you can preserve some dirs as /home, /mnt, etc

yes like nightjar said - there should be no need to erase your /home partition asssuming it is on a partition of its own (make a back though )

mmm - I've never seen the folder not on the cd. Well - you can download the images here:
ftp://ftp.mirror.ac.uk/sites/ftp.red...os/i386/images
