Impenetrable--yes, that would be a myth.

What one person can create, another can figure out.

Extremely difficult--that's another story. Most bad guys are, ultimately, lazy. If they find breaking into one house too difficult, they go down the street and try to break into the next one.

A web search for "best encryption" will turn up a number of articles and reviews.

Even if you use an 'impenetrable' algorithm to encrypt a file system, it still wouldn't guaranty secrecy because it would still be vulnerable to rubber hose crypto-analysis

So to answer your question, there is no such thing as a 100% secure system/algorithm.

The OP seems to have a habit of asking general/waffling questions, rather than specifying what the OP really wants to know.

Nothing crypto is "impenetrable," but it is very easy to make it "impenetrable enough." So that someone who picks up the USB stick after you accidentally dropped it will not be able to "casually" recover what is on it. They probably will not try very hard, unless their company-name is three letters long.
