I don't know if kde or gnome is running please help me.

First off, I'm sorry for my noob question:

I installed KDE Etch then upgraded to Lenny. I noticed the difference in looks in KDE APPS and GNOME APPS and they completely bothered me. I then saw GTK 2.10 was needed to run FF3 beta so I installed the libraries via synaptic of course. Still, I wanted to change the icons in Gnome Apps so I installed gtk-engines-thinice and others. Now, when I rebooted here is what I saw:

Notice that I have gnome panels yet is running the KDE Theme Manager. I have mostly KDE apps running.

I am about to cry I've been trying to fix this problem for months now.

Sadly, I am more and more confused with this problem...

I am confused about what you have actually done...

I would start by installing with either KDE or Gnome. Then, if you install a specific application that was written for the other Desktop, the package manager will pull in the libraries needed to run that application.

Sorry, apparently that was for the photobucket thumbnail. This one is a direct link.

Anyway, my problem is solved once I logged out of the current X Session and chose to log in kde.

I don't know if what I've said above made sense - but definitely I now know that I have both Gnome and KDE installed.

Thanks for the help guys

It made perfectly good sense~ I made the same mistake when I first installed KDE on Ubuntu. Glad to see your problem is solved.

Cheers
