I'm afraid I don't understand what you typed. Are you saying you have the non-free repositories enabled and you have installed unrar but you still cannot unrar files?

Are you sure that the rar archive you have isn't empty? Can you open it in another OS? I haven't had any problems unraring even multi-part archives using unrar on Debian.

You have opened it with another operating system and it is not empty or corrupt?
Have you tried to open it from the GUI?

if a rar archive is incomplete/corrupt the output file is deleted, but you should be presented with an error

try

Code:
unrar x -kb file.rar
-kb is keep broken ( it won't delete the output file, even if broken )

there is no 'unrar-nonfree', it's either 'unrar' or 'unrar-free'. The 'unrar' is not opensource, the 'unrar-free' has problems unpacking newer .rar archives - that might be the problem.

Why do you can't? Do you have nonfree repositories enabled?
