I've downloaded Mandriva 2008 but I don't know how to boot it

hello all.
this is, I guess, the tipical newbie's questions, althogh there is nothing, that I could find about it.
I was using Mandriva 2007, but it was giving me more troubles than plesure, :\ ... I don't understand why but I didn't have libraries such as QT's so I couldn't configure the kernel (xconfig)
I decided to download de 2008's vertion and I have an iso file, but, there is a problem...
I opened it and burned a DVD with all files, I saw everywhere that it is needed to have a flopy disk for boot, but I haven't any Flopy drive... :\.
So I ask you, if you can help me.
How should I burn the DVD, as an iso file or extracting it?
Is there any way to boot without fd, I tryed with a PEN by using "dd if=hd_grub.img of=/dev/sda1" but it didn't work as well?

Thanks

Using the package manager you can add the missing libraries.

Anyway back to installing 2008. Burn the .iso (do not open the iso and extract its contents) so that when you look at the completed dvd you see only files and folders not a single .iso file. Then leave the dvd in the drive, reboot, set your system to boot from the cd/dvd drive and follow the onscreen instructions.

wow... here is an other problem.
I used BURNCDCC (saw in wiki.mandriva) and NERO 8 and both gave me error when I tryed to load the huge iso file (4Gb) ...
How can I burn the entire DVD? or it is not needed?

thank you

I don't think you can burn a DVD (or CD) with just part of an iso file. There are plenty of burning applications that will handle DVDs. Are you burning on Windows or Linux?

I always recommend installing from CD instead of DVD--then get everything else over the net using the package manager.

PS:
"both gave me error"
You have to tell us the actual error for us to do anything with this!

I'm not up on Windows CD/DVD burning SW. Someone who is will need to know which app you are using, and exactly where you received the error.

When I "burn from iso", the SW typically just reads the file to the CD or DVD. I'm puzzled as to where your SW is trying to load the file.
