I'm trying to run kali on windows 7 from a usb drive

I started with deleting partitions on my usb drive. After I write the kali file to my drive with Win32 I'm being told that I need to format my usb. I've tried formatting first then writing the file but I get the same error. I cant figure out what I'm doing wrong. Any help would be appreciated

I'm trying to run Kali from a thumb drive, but am not quite sure of the process I should be using, as when I use the instructions on the Kali website it either tells me my USB needs formatted or to inserts disk even though there is one

Did you follow this guide to create a bootable USB drive using windows? Where or how did the format message popup? What were you doing?

Once the imaging is complete did you reboot the computer? You might have to configure the BIOS boot order to select the USB as the first device.

an idea

try reading the install instructions and fallow them

http://docs.kali.org/category/installation

and use "persistence " on a FULLY encrypted usb drive

as per the instructions

you can not just COPY a ISO image using MS windows ( copy / paste)

you have to BURN the image ( like a dvd )
or INSTALL to the usb drive
