Open YaST -> Manage Software and see if hplip is available. I don't have a SuSE machine available at the moment so I cannot check it myself. If hplip software is available then install it. You may also need to install CUPS software.
If hplip software is not available then install CUPS anyway, then go to the Hewlett Packard web site link below and obtain the HP printer software there. Naturally, then you install it.

I have found the hplip + CUPS combination to work well with my HP printer from my PCLinuxOS system. You might also benefit if you installed v10.2 of SuSE. The v10.2 version of SuSE fixed a bunch of things like YaST that were broken in v10.0 and in v10.1. I'm not saying that YaST works well in v10.2. I'm just saying that it works better than it did in the previous v10.x series.
