HP laserjet 2200d and Suse 10.1 printing problem

Hi all. I am running a dual boot with suse 10.1 and w2k. I have a laserjet 2200d connected to a parallel port. The suse 10.1 is quiet a new install. The problem is, the printer gets detected but just does not print when running suse.

I couldnt find any linux drivers for the printer on hp site or anywhere else. The printer is set to postscript in yast, as recommended. I did try several other options that also did not work.

The printer works, because it prints in w2k, but although detected correctly in suse, it does not print. No error messages or anything. It is as if the print request just got ignored. I am kind of a noob in linux so please go easy on me with advice, as I struggle with terminal commands. I don't think its a matter of just clearing the spool as the printer never worked in suse since install.

Thanks in advance for help.

Open YaST -> Manage Software and see if hplip is available. I don't have a SuSE machine available at the moment so I cannot check it myself. If hplip software is available then install it. You may also need to install CUPS software.

If hplip software is not available then install CUPS anyway, then go to the Hewlett Packard web site link below and obtain the HP printer software there. Naturally, then you install it.

I have found the hplip + CUPS combination to work well with my HP printer from my PCLinuxOS system. You might also benefit if you installed v10.2 of SuSE. The v10.2 version of SuSE fixed a bunch of things like YaST that were broken in v10.0 and in v10.1. I'm not saying that YaST works well in v10.2. I'm just saying that it works better than it did in the previous v10.x series.
