Howto set up a linux server for publishing dokuments in filetree

Today I have a Windows server 2003 set up in my network to publish documents, using webshare. How can I migrate to Linux and get same function ?

Today the users are able to browse the folders on the server and when they have found the right folder they use search function in the browser to find a specific document by name.

If there is a smart search function available in the solution instead this would help even further, then the users dont need to find the right folder manually.

I prefer using Ubuntu.

Please help me with this issue, I´d be very grateful for some answers

After some testing I realized that the easiest way probably is to just install apache and let the users browse the documents the same way as before.

Question still to solve, is there any easier way for the users to find the documents by searching the tree ?

No, I need somthing simpler. I´m going to feed my archive with documents from different sources with ftp and put them in different folders depending on type, year, month, etc.

I just need a simple way to publish the folder structure and documents in them to enable manual search and then as an extra offer make the archive searchable. The documents should not be able to edit once they are in the archive, so check in and out and so on is overkill.

You could browse the CMS projects over at http://php.opensourcecms.com/

Lots of variety and different functionality, maybe something there will suit your more minimal needs.

Best of luck in your search !!
