how to search for a application?


I downloaded an rpm file of gtk-gnutella... I went into remove software to see if it installed properly and the application is on here I just can't find where and how to launch it.

use this command: "whereis your_app_name"

yah just from a terminal window, type wat he says.. if ur lookin for winamp..

*****@root]= whereis Winamp

& remember its case sensitive

Yea do it as root, if not logged in as root type: su -l in your terminal window and you'll get a prompt for your root password.

"whereis" command gives you any file related to a certain software.
Try "which" command that gives you the path of the binary file only (executable).
This should be a little faster.
