Maybe this will help:

https://www.linuxquestions.org/quest...stions-671372/

Of course if the above fails you could always try their website:

http://www.linpus.com/

Always good to search the forum for useful suggestions

As to the hardware upgrade, perhaps contact where you purchased it from?
Not familiar with netbooks but I wasn't aware they were the upgradeable type of thing?? (could be wrong of course )

Your best bet is probably to replace Linpus with a currently-supported operating system. If you do a forum search on "Linpus" you will not find a lot of satisfied users...

Linpus was once described as the world's worst Linux: Acer got robbed. It's not easy to update, as I understand it.

A quick search for "Acer Aspire One ZG5 memory" came up with 1GB for £16 at Amazon. But you could run it with 512MB: Zorin Light (not the standard version) will run in 128MB and it's easy to use.

you do NOT upgrade the very old firefox2 to the current firefox 25
you might be able to install firefox3 ? maybe ???
ff2 is so old that the changes in ff3 were big and required NEW versions of some of the base operating system software

so with "Linpus Linux Lite v1.0.9.E" you are stuck with ff2 and the antique version of flash that is installed

Basically they thought of "Linpus Lite" on a netbook as an appliance and you do not upgrade the software in your toaster or in your refrigerator or even the VCR or tv remote

you toss out a perfectly good appliance and buy a new one

or

replace the operating system on the netbook

AntiX is supposed to be a good OS for hardware with your Specs.
http://antix.mepis.org/index.php?tit...Page#Downloads

but a minimal install of something like LinuxMint 13 LTS using the light desktop manager like "xfce" or "lxde"
would run on that

Antix and linux mint are operating systems
like XP and the garbage "linpus light"

they are not programs to be installed

i take it you do NOT have a cd/dvd drive on this
and only have usb2 ports

Do you live near a computer repair shop ?
All large cites have a few and most small towns will have one

paying someone $20 USD might be a good option

Quote:
can you teach me step by step
yes and no

if one knows what they are doing it is rather easy to replace Linpus light
( assuming there is NO dvd drive and only a usb port)

you need to make a bootable usb thumb drive ( about 10$ usd in most stores )
--- that will take time to teach

use the installer to reformat the netbook and REMOVE linpus light

then install say Mint 13 "long term support " ( LTS ) - minimal install ( you only have 8 gigs of space )
-- increasing the drive space and the ram WILL HELP
A guess here but the 8 gig of drive space is a 8 gig SSD FLASH card ,that is easy for a computer repair shop to upgrade.

it is very unlikely that the current google chrome browser will install on that version of Linpus light

the operating system is to old "Linpus Linux Lite v1.0.9" dates from 2007
-- SIX ( 6 )years ago --

http://www.linpus.com/support.html
is a place to start

it is possible to install firefox 3 through 6
but after that ?????

your best bet with your level of knowledge is to have a repair shop install a new operating system

also you can check with your local library for a local " linux users group " or a computer club

the computer is not bad
it is just the IDIOTS that put "linpus light" on the hardware

John VV is correct that Acer marketed these things as a disposable appliance. Throw it in the trash (just kidding, please recycle it properly ) and ask for a new laptop for Christmas. A new Chromebook will only set you (or your parents) back around $200 for example.

Or if you are motivated to learn Linux, maybe bring your netbook to your LUG (local linux user's group) at their next "installfest" and they'll help you get up and running with a supported Linux. Where do you live?

I just did! The Lite version of Zorin:

Which can be downloaded from here
http://zorin-os.com/free6.html
Don't get the Core or Educational versions.

A Chromebook would be a fantastic choice for web browsing only.

Maybe you can find someone locally to help you through one of these links?
