How to open up a text console?

I am using an old version of Corel Linux, dual booting with Windows 2000 Server.

I've installed a new video card on the dual-booted machine, installed the Windows 2000 server video drivers w/out problem. Downloaded the linux-compatible driver for the video card to the harddrive that is fully accessible in Linux.

I've got the instructions on how to mount the drivers.

However, I have no idea as to HOW TO GET INTO THE CONSOLE at reboot time?

Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Well I will admit that I have not used Corel Linux, but a few things that you can try are looking for a launch menu, something like the start menu in windows, here you will want to look for something such as terminal, failing this look for an option for 'run application...' at the prompt try 'xterm'.

If neither of the the above work, try hitting <ctrl><alt><f3>, this should bring you to a text command mode, when you want to get back to the GUI hit <ctrl><alt><f7>.
