Hi! Looking for help on how to install Linux Slax 6 Live CD to an older ex-windows PC,have tried all on the Bootable CD from installing to the ram, fresh, and command prompt but can't figure it out ,myself.Any one help a non linux geek; with easy how to steps?
Please give us more details. What are the PC parameters and what kind of media do you have? Why not try the latest Slax 7.0.3 and why not try Slackware which has a bigger community and better support?
How to configure dual boot Slax 6 and Windows XP? What about shared storage?
Oh,didn't think you could post a question in here...
Thought it was an "introduce yourself" only part!
Okay...Have Slax Linux 6 Live CD and want to install it on my 40 gig HDD,so I don't have to go through all the browser configurations etc and have to rely on CD inserted to run it.How do I create a partition for the Linux,or dual boot so I can have Windows XP SP3 running on it as well or just solely Linux Slax 6; if I decide to?
Or so I can access the files in windows through the Linux media storage HDD? Like music files etc?
Trained, have diploma in PC for windows, completely Blonde when it comes to linux!
Slax is made to run from either a CD or USB stick. For desktop I'm most familiar with Ubuntu, however I hear that Mint is highly favored in the community and I'm planning to give it an eventual try.
With Ubuntu, you download an ISO file which you burn to either a CD or thumbstick and when you boot it gives you the option to either run from the inserted media (like you've been doing with Slax) or install on your system's hard drive.
The installation process allows you to either set up dual boot, thus keeping Windows on your system and allowing Linux to boot as an alternative, or you can choose to completely initialize your entire hard drive to solely run Linux. However you have a desire to see your Windows files from Linux, therefore I'd recommend you choose the dual boot option.
Moderator note: I've pruned your question from the original introduction in order to give it more visibility with a proper thread title. Moreover, I've merged the other related thread of yours.
