Does /usr/lib/asterisk/modules have chan_sip.so in it? If it is, then your sip.conf might be goofy, maybe it's in asterisk-addons, IDK. If not, go download the source, and build and install it yourself, using the instructions I spelled out in post #2.

Starting from fresh

Why don't start from fresh controlling all the parameters.

1. Download a full package of asterisk (usually tar.gz format).
2. Open it to a directory.
3. Compile it (configure and then make and make install/samples in the end).

This should give you a working system that you can control all its components
