how is decision taken if the packet is erroneous in netfilter

Hi,

i am just not able to figure out how a packet is treated erroneous packet at the DLL layer and then how this information is available at the netfilter.
I have made a NF_PRE_ROUTING hook and want to know how to detect erroneous packets.

Regards,
Hemendra
