Unhappy How do I free kernel memory pages?

Hello!

I've fooled around with: root# strings -n 30 /proc/kcore | less
and discovered that all STDOUT/STDERR activities ( like ls, man etc ) had slowed down considerably.

Also, X and Opera seemed to struggle with a lack of memory.

Glance at: root# top revealed that there is about 20M of unaccountable used memory.

Maybe all I've described doesn't relate to any problem with memory, but if it is,
how do I free these memory pages?

(kernel 2.2.19).

Thanks a lot.
