How do I compile packages for use in Suse?

I have used several distros(Debian, Mandrake,FC3) and now I am using "Novell Desktop powered by SuSe". Many times, the installation instructions tell me to compile it and install. Can someone please tell me about the different ways to install software, particularly in SuSE.

Thank you very much,
-Sean

Read this to learn how to install programs in Linux:

http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...threadid=45094

and read this to learn how to configure SuSE's Yast, so you can download and install packages from the Internet instead of your CD's:

Good luck!
