How can I replace the Linux scrolling text during boot-up with a splash image?
I need some help in determining how to have a color splash image display in place of the Linux scrolling-text during the boot-up process on an embedded Linux device. The kernel used is a stripped-down version of Linux (kernel 2.6.29), which has been custom configured.
I am using syslinux as the bootloader. I was told that Plymouth might be the way to go with this, but I'm not sure. I'm very new at this and need some guidance.
I have downloaded splashy-0.3.13 and ran ./configure successfully. When I run 'make', I get the following errors:
cc1: warnings being treated as errors
splashy_functions.c: In function 'search_pattern':
splashy_functions.c:217: error: ignoring return value of 'fread_unlocked', declared with attribute warn_unused_result
splashy_functions.c: In function 'cmd_chroot':

splashy_functions.c:426: error: ignoring return value of 'chroot', declared with attribute warn_unused_result

I'd like to do this as well, but that is further down-the-road for me...
The bootsplash.org seems to be 'superceeded' by the splashy tho...
Will wait to see if ARM versions (Debian in particular) will be handled...
