Help with CUPS install not printing

Hello,

Super new to this stuff, so please let me know if this is the wrong place for this.

I have an Apple LaserWriter II NTX printer and a Raspberry Pi as a CUPS server, and am having difficulty getting the printer to print. The printer works great from an old Mac. It is connected to an Asante localtalk converter, which is then connected to a network switch, along with my main PC and the other old Mac. The old Mac running Mac OS 9 prints just fine to the printer and is able to receive details, so I know the network is set up correctly.

The Pi is running all required packages to convert apple talk to an IP based protocol (MacIPpi), along with CUPS.

I am able to get a location through PAP for the printer (pap://%2a/LaserWriter%20II%20NTX/LaserWriter), and CUPS can connect to it. lpstat -a shows it is accepting jobs. I have tried a few different Apple drivers for it, along with generic postscript 1 drivers. It just does not want to print. When I click print from either the Pi, or my Windows 10 PC through the CUPS interface, or through Windows 10 print dialog, the LaserWriter blinks its green ready light, like its going to print, then it goes back to solid green after a minute. CUPS then shows the job as completed. I cannot even print a test page. The printer networking and Pi are set up correctly, I think this is more of a CUPS problem.

Here is the log from CUPS, log as debug2
https://pastebin.com/XFnWeQP9 (Pretty long to post here)

Would anyone have any ideas on what next steps to take? I don't see any glaring errors in the log file.

Also, I see a common issue is the printer is paused. In this case, it is not, it says it is idle from CUPS.

From this link, https://www.openprinting.org/printer...erWriter_IINTX it says
Quote:
Set Switch 1 and 2 down, all others up
. Not sure if that helps you.

Thank you for the help, however those would be the incorrect settings for my use case. I have 1, 2, 3, and 4 UP, which would mean it is set for Postscript and Appletalk, which is what it needs to be set at for what I am trying to do. The last two are down, which means XON/XOFF no handshake. It works with an old Mac, so I know these settings are correct for my use case.

I did see in a very old post that had a workaround for this issue in LPRng that sounds like the same issue I am having: http://www.linuxmisc.com/5-linux-har...6552e88486.htm

Received and installed a LaserWriter IIg board which is capable of Postscript 2. Changed the PPD to a IIg one. Printer now somewhat prints. It prints a self test page, but any other option prints a page with
"ERROR;
rangecheck
OFFENDING COMMAND:
SubFileDecode
STACK:

455024 (This number changes every print)
--nostringinterval--
--nostringinterval--
5"

Seems like some sort of post script error? Have tried multiple different PPDs, all have either same result or wont work at all.

From the Postscript1 link on the page linked in post #2:
Quote:
This is a Ghostscript-based driver for PostScript level 1 printers. Applications usually produce PostScript level 2 or 3, sometimes also PDF. None of these formats can be printed by the old PostScript level 1 printers. Fortunately, Ghostscript can convert all these data formats into PostScript level 1 and so these printers can also print.

Note that printing with manufacturer-supplied PPDs will not work with PostScript level 1 printers.

Tried that driver, green ready light quickly blinks a couple times then stays lit. The only one to get it to do anything is the original PPD, which just provides a generic error of filter failed and really nothing that stands out in the log.
